Canine Articles

My parents started Classic Kennels in 1977, a hobby kennel dedicated to Rough Collies. Throughout the years, there have been several different breeds that we have fallen in love with. In 1996, I took on a bigger role within the daily operations of the kennel including training, customer service, and promoting the dogs and our bloodlines. Then, in 2017 my dad got sick with Lymphoma and passed away. My daughter took an interest in becoming a more active participant in the day-to-day activities with the dogs in 2020.

We are now a 3-generation hobby breeder with each generation bringing something special to our programs. As Joni's health declined, she fell in love with the Dachshund and in the early 1990s these loyal, intelligent, and somewhat stubborn dogs joined our family. The early 2000s saw Joni developing a love for the Pomeranian.

In 1996, I was introduced to the Japanese Chin and I was smitten. These cat-like, stubborn dogs wormed their way into my heart. I took over the main aspects of the Rough Collie program in the early 2000s as Joni's physical health declined.

When my dad passed away, he had already developed a solid Shih Tzu program. My daughter decided these happy-go-lucky dogs were a part of her heart and she started learning the ins and outs of the Shih Tzu. In 2019, she then fell hard for the Pembroke Welsh Corgi (a breed that I had loved dearly before taking over the Rough Collie program).

Incorporating my passion for dogs with my freelance writing has really been seamless. Check out some of the articles that I have written in the pet genre.
